The stadium standing on Bunyodkor Avenue in Tashkent's Chilanzar district is not the first arena on that ground. Before it there stood the MHSK stadium, holding 16,500 spectators, and when it came down in 2009 the site was rebuilt from the foundations up over the following three years.

The new Milliy Stadium opened on 28 September 2012 with a friendly between Bunyodkor and Pakhtakor. The first competitive fixture followed the next spring, on 26 March 2013, when Uzbekistan beat Lebanon 1-0 in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

The ground carries the Bunyodkor name informally alongside its official one. It seats up to 34,800 on a natural grass pitch.
