Monumental David Arellano
The ground belongs to the club that plays on it. Коло-Коло owns Монументаль Давид Арельяно outright. It is Монументаль, or Монументаль де Макуль when the distinction matters.
It took fourteen years to finish. Марио Рекордон and Альберто Сартори drew the plans; the ground opened partially in April 1975 and was only completed and formally inaugurated in September 1989. That gap covers the years when the arena served another purpose entirely: from the coup of 11 September 1973 until 1990 it was used as a detention, torture and execution site, with more than 40,000 people held there. Documentary film-makers have returned to it repeatedly.
The attendance record still stands from 1992, when 69,305 came for the Superclásico against Универсидад де Чиле. Concerts have drawn more. Мадонна's two nights in December 2008 brought 146,242 through the gates, the largest figure the stadium has recorded.
In 2015 Чили won the Кубок Америки here on penalties after a goalless final against Аргентиной.
