Monumental Estadio Cuscatlán

The stadium takes its name from a competition. When El Salvador's football authorities looked for something to call the new national ground in 1976, "Cuscatlán" beat out "San Salvador" and "Fraternidad" — the old indigenous name for the country stuck, and it has stayed on the building ever since, through decades in which most stadiums in the region traded their names to sponsors. It opened on 24 July that year with a friendly against Borussia Mönchengladbach, designed by López Muñoz and Architects and built by Simán S. A., and it remains the property of the state utility EDESSA rather than any club.

The turf itself has had to be renewed more than once, including a full replacement in 2016, and the venue has kept pace with the times through a string of upgrades — a 2007–2008 scoreboard installation, a 2015 facelift, and a 100-metre 4K screen fitted in 2020.

The ground carries a heavier weight, too. On 20 May 2023, a crush at the entrance before a national championship semi-final between Alianza and FAS killed twelve people, and the league suspended the competition in response. That same year, ahead of a visit from Inter Miami with Lionel Messi, the stadium underwent a rapid round of repairs. Beyond football, Cuscatlán has doubled as the country's biggest concert stage, hosting Bad Bunny, Karol G and Ricardo Arjona among others, with Chayanne announced for 2025.
