The ground sits on the edge of a campus, but it is not the sort of place that announces itself with grandeur. The sky above is the only thing that seems to stretch far beyond it.

There is a flat, even green across the pitch, cut with white lines.

The stadium is Connecticut FC 's home, a club that began its life on this patch of earth in its first season. It is not the biggest arena in Storrs, nor the oldest. The capacity is modest, with seats for a few thousand, but the crowd does not feel large.

The place has history, but it is quiet history. He is gone now, but the field still carries his name. The university team moved to a new facility a few years ago, leaving this ground to the professionals and the occasional college match.

It is not a cathedral of sport. It is a place where the ball is kicked and the players run until they are tired. The players adapt to it. They do not complain about the cold, and they do not talk about the history. They play the game.
