New Malatya Stadium
Malatya, Turkey
New Malatya Stadium sits alongside the Ankara-Gaziantep highway in the Battalgazi district. The architecture reflects its 2017 opening with a steel roof structure that spans the stands, creating a single visual rhythm across the tiers. Where older venues often feel compartmentalised, this ground presents a unified curve of red and yellow seats that catch the eye before the match begins.
Photographs taken here show the Turkish flag displayed prominently on the large central screen, a constant presence above the stands. Beside it, a banner reads 'Yeni Malatyaspor'a Başarılar Diler,' connecting the architecture directly to the local club. The advertising hoardings around the pitch feature the lettering of the Turkish Super Lig, confirming the level at which the venue operates. Players line up on the grass, which is maintained as natural turf, and the management has prioritised clear sightlines over decorative elements.
The stadium replaced the old Malatya İnönü Stadium as the home of Yeni Malatyaspor. While the capacity is reported variously between 25,745 and 27,044 spectators, the visual impression is one of a mid-tier venue rather than a massive arena. The architects, Bahadir Kul Architects and Azaksu Mimarlik, designed the space to be functional, with the concrete tiers rising steeply from the pitch. The municipality owns the facility, and the name 'Malatya Arena' appeared briefly during the opening period but did not stick as an official title.
What distinguishes this ground is its straightforward approach to design. There are no complex architectural features or historical layers to unpack. The steel beams overhead and the red and yellow seating create a simple, modern aesthetic. The location ensures that the stadium is visible from the highway, making it a landmark for anyone travelling between the city centre and the outskirts. The pitch itself is a standard 105m by 68m, providing a familiar stage for the games played here.
