Nordsee-Stadion
Plans for the ground included an eight-lane running track around the pitch; it was never laid, and the pitch has stood alone since the stadium opened on 21 September 1975 at a cost of 24 million Deutschmarks. Capacity has followed the same downward path: what opened for 15,000 now holds 10,000.
The ground replaced Zollinlandplatz, the old pitch on the site that Bremerhaven's clubs had used until then and which was demolished in 2013. OSC Bremerhaven, formed by merger in 1972, has been the principal tenant since, sharing the calendar with the Bremerhaven Seahawks' American football fixtures.
Its biggest football date remains a German Cup tie: on 19 August 2005 FC Bremerhaven drew Schalke 04 and a record crowd of 9,897, before losing 3-0. Outside football, the stadium has doubled as a concert venue and as the site of the city's Christmas carol singing each December.
