Nya Parken
Norrköping, Sweden
Formerly: Norrköpings Idrottspark, Nya Parken, Östgötaporten, Platinumcars Arena
The ground in Norrköping is defined by its long history rather than its modern façade. Nya Parken sits on the site of Norrköpings Idrottspark, which opened on September 25, 1903. The original structure was a multi-purpose sports ground, complete with running tracks and bandy facilities. That era ended with a major reconstruction that ran from 2002 to 2009. The venue reopened in 2009 as a modern football arena with a capacity of around 16,000. The playing surface is artificial turf, installed during the 2008-2009 redevelopment.
The stadium’s role as a sporting centre was cemented when it hosted three matches during the 1958 FIFA World Cup: France 7-3 Paraguay, Paraguay 2-1 Scotland, and France 4-0 Northern Ireland. It also hosted three matches during Euro 1992: CIS 1-1 Germany, Scotland 0-2 Germany, and Scotland 3-0 CIS.
