Stadium
Olympisch Stadion
Formerly: Beerschotstadion
The ground at Atletenstraat carries a name that only makes sense once: it was built for one summer, the summer Antwerp hosted the Olympic Games. Fernand De Montigny drew it, and what he worked from was not empty land but the existing home of Beerschot AC, the Beerschotstadion , extended and reshaped into something large enough for an opening ceremony.
Seventeen years later the same bowl was given over to the Workers' Summer Olympiad.
That ended with the rebuild at the turn of the century, when the bowl was broken into four separate stands and the athletics ring disappeared.
Work has returned to the site periodically since, in 2012 and 2018. The pitch remains natural grass.
