OmaSp Areena
Imatra, Finland
Formerly: Imatran jäähalli, Imatra Spa Areena
OmaSp Areena
The venue in the Ukonniemi district opened in August 2011 to replace an older ice hall in Vuoksenniska. It serves as the home for the professional ice hockey club Imatran Ketterä, which plays in the Mestis league, Finland's second-tier professional league. The capacity is listed as 1,200, though some sources cite 1,300 including standing or cafe areas. The playing surface is ice, consisting of a main rink and a smaller practice rink.
The venue has undergone several name changes due to sponsorship agreements. Upon opening in 2011, it was officially known as Imatran jäähalli. In October 2012, the marketing name became Imatra Spa Areena following a partnership with the nearby Imatra Spa Resort. In December 2021, naming rights were sold to Oma Säästöpankki, and the venue was renamed OmaSp Areena, with the first game under the new name played in January 2022. A proposed name, Saimaa Gardens Areena, was sold to a hotel in Lappeenranta but never came into use.
Notable events hosted at the arena include matches during the 2014 IIHF World U18 Championships, shared with Lappeenranta, and a Nenäpäivä All Stars charity match in November 2013 featuring Finnish hockey legends. The specific all-time attendance record has not been found in available sources. The venue is equipped with advanced sound systems and is used for various events and training beyond ice hockey.
