One Spokane Stadium

The ground at 501 W. Gardner Avenue answers to two landlords at once. Spokane Public Schools owns the stadium itself; the land beneath it belongs to the Spokane Public Facilities District, which also runs and maintains the place. That split explains the building's double life — a school district venue that happens to host third-division professional football.

The surface is the part worth dwelling on. AstroTurf Rootzone 3D covers 98,930 square feet, laid in three layers rather than one, each doing a separate job: player safety at the top, durability through the middle, drainage below. It is a specification chosen for a field that has to take school fixtures and a professional season in the same calendar year, week after week, without being rested.

The stadium opened on 26 September 2023, and the tenant arrived with it. Spokane Velocity FC play their home matches here in USL League One, the third tier of the American league system.

Everything about the site follows from that ownership arrangement. The district needed a facility for its schools; the professional club needed a home in a city that had not had one at this level. One building serves both, on land held by a third party, which is why the address matters more here than it does at most grounds — it is the fixed point in an otherwise divided arrangement.
