OPAP Arena

The Nikos Goumas Stadium had stood there since 1930, was left badly damaged by the Athens earthquake of 1999, and came down in 2003; AEK Athens spent the years that followed as tenants at the Olympic Stadium. Earthworks on the replacement began on 28 July 2017, and the stadium was inaugurated on 30 September 2022, with the first match three days later. The build came to roughly €98.7 million.

The design, by AK & Associate Architects under Thanasis Kyratsous, puts a white membrane roof on four arched trusses, hides the floodlights in the roof itself, and hangs two OLED screens behind the goals. The official name, Agia Sophia Stadium, carries over from the old ground; in UEFA competition it is entered as AEK Arena, and the commercial name has changed once already, from OPAP Arena to Allwyn Arena in early 2026.

The stadium also carries a darker date. On 9 October 2023, before a UEFA Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb, a clash between supporters near the ground killed an AEK fan and injured others; around 100 Croatian supporters were arrested. Seven months later, on 29 May 2024, Olympiacos beat Fiorentina 1–0 here in the UEFA Conference League final.
