Otelul Din Galati
Galați, Romania
Stadionul Oţelul in Galați is defined by a specific moment in its architecture. Built between 1979 and 1982, the ground opened on March 30, 1982, a date confirmed by multiple sources. It was constructed by the local steel works, later known as ArcelorMittal Galați and now Liberty Galați, but its identity remains tied to the industrial past of the city.
The structure underwent a drastic transformation in 2005 and 2006. To comply with UEFA regulations, the original terraces—capacities for which once reached 40,000—were converted into an all-seater configuration. The capacity was reduced to 13,932. A subsequent renovation took place in 2011, when a new floodlight system was installed, allowing the club to host night matches. The specific costs of these projects are not recorded in available sources.
The stadium stands at Strada Anghel Saligny, nr. 2, though some records cite nr. 82. It has played host to two Cupa României finals involving ASC Oţelul Galați, in 2003–04 and 2023–24, though both were lost. The highest recorded attendance is not definitively documented, though a figure of 22,000 is mentioned in historical context. As of 2025, Galați City Hall has announced plans to take ownership of the stadium from Liberty Galați and expand the capacity to 18,000 seats.
