The ground sits within the California Exposition and State Fair. It is a private-public collaboration that opened in June 2014. The capacity was expanded to 11,569, a fact confirmed when the inaugural match drew 8,000 spectators and the following year saw 16 sell-outs in 17 matches.

The venue hosted the USL Pro Championship final on November 22, 2014, when the local side won their first title. It also played host to rugby internationals and concerts, though the primary tenant, Sacramento Republic FC, keeps the place in use through the USL Championship season.

The most visible feature is the seating.

The stadium has undergone several name changes, starting as Bonney Field before becoming Papa Murphy's Park and eventually Heart Health Park.
