Lyon's ground does not stand in Lyon. It sits out at Décines-Charpieu. The bill came to roughly €480 million once the surrounding infrastructure was counted, and about €180 million of that was public money.

The ground opened that January, five months before the tournament, with Olympique Lyonnais against Troyes and a concert by will.i.am on the same bill. It then took six matches of the Euro, one of them a semi-final.

What followed made it a venue for finals more than a home ground. Atlético Madrid beat Marseille here in the 2018 UEFA Europa League final. The United States beat the Netherlands here in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup final. In 2023 the Rugby World Cup came through, and rugby has kept a claim on the place since: the largest crowd for any sporting event here, 58,741, came for a Top 14 semi-final between Toulouse and Bayonne in June 2025.

Football's own record arrived five months later — 58,257 against PSG. Neither figure is the outright best. That belongs to Indochine, who drew 72,561 in 2022. The surface is AirFibr hybrid grass.
