Pedro Bidegain
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Formerly: Estadio Nuevo Gasómetro
The pitch at the Estadio Pedro Bidegain is the largest in Argentina, measuring 110 by 70 metres. It sits in the Boedo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires . The ground replaced the old Gasómetro, which was demolished in 1981, and opened in 1993.
What makes this arena different from the others is the way the stands are arranged. The stands are divided into sections for home and away fans.
San Lorenzo won the CONMEBOL Libertadores on this ground in 2014, beating Nacional of Paraguay 1–0 in the second leg. The Argentina national team did not play here in recent years, though their predecessors used the old site for international matches in the 1930s and 1940s.
The stadium is named after Pedro Bidegain, who served as president of the club between 1929 and 1930. The capacity is officially 47,964, but for international matches the number drops to around 31,814 because of seating rules. The attendance record for the current ground is not settled, but matches against Boca Juniors always draw large crowds.
