Phoenix Tag Arena Gudme

The Phoenix Tag Arena sits quietly on Stærkærvej 1 in Gudme, a small town on the island of Funen. It is a handball hall, not a football stadium, and it is part of the Gudme-Hallerne sports complex. The building itself is older than the current arena; the original hall, Sydøstfynshallen, was opened in 1972 after a brief construction period. The main hall we see today was planned in 1992 but delayed by the discovery of Iron Age remains nearby, which pushed the completion date to October 1993. The sponsorship from a local roofing company later gave the venue its present name.

The capacity stands at 1,950 , split between 1,450 seated and 500 standing spots, a figure reached after a 2014 expansion. The pitch measures 40 by 20 metres, the standard dimensions for the sport. GOG Håndbold called this place home for decades before moving to Arena Svendborg in 2022. Gudme HK and GOG Dame Elite are still regular visitors. The highest recorded attendance is not found, though sell-outs are reported for GOG fixtures as of late 2024. An attendance of 810 was recorded for a 2023 match against Tatran Prešov.

Citizens know the ground because it is the only one in town for their sport.
