Construction began in May 2007 and ran to 60 million euros. The ground opened on 24 January 2009, and TSG 1899 Хоффенхайм played the first competitive match here a week later, beating Энерги Котбус 2:0 on 31 January. The club has never played anywhere else since.

The attendance record still stands from the early years: 30,150 against Кайзерслаутерн on 5 November 2011.

The 2011 women's World Cup brought the third-place match here on 16 July, Швеция against Франция, watched by 25,475. Germany's men have visited three times — Перу in September 2018, Израиль in March 2022, Люксембург in October 2025 — and the crowd figure barely moved across those seven years: 25,494, then 25,600, then 25,249.
