Where most Bundesliga grounds carry the scars of decades of expansion, this one went up in a single campaign. Dietmar Hopp, the SAP co-founder who finances TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, commissioned the build outright; agn Niederberghaus & Partner drew the plans, and construction ran from a groundbreaking on 25 May 2007 to an opening on 24 January 2009, costing around €60 million.

The bowl holds 30,150 for Bundesliga fixtures, split between 23,400 seats and 6,750 standing places on the terraces. For UEFA competition and international fixtures, the standing sections convert to seating and capacity drops to somewhere between 25,589 and 25,641 — a routine adjustment rather than a rebuild, since nothing structural has changed since the doors opened.

The pitch has stayed natural grass throughout. When the club floated a "reconstruction" in April 2017, it turned out to be an April Fools' joke; the ground has needed no structural rework since it opened.

Sponsors, meanwhile, have queued up. The venue has carried four names since 2009 — Rhein-Neckar-Arena, Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena, PreZero Arena and, from July 2026, SNP Arena. Its attendance record, the full 30,150, has been set more than once, including for Bayern Munich's visit in 2013 and Tottenham Hotspur's in the Europa League in 2025.
