Richmond Park sits on ground that was a British Army barracks before it was ever a football pitch. Richmond Barracks emptied out after the Irish Free State was formed, and the site lay unused for three years until Brideville took it over in 1925, giving the ground the name it has kept ever since — after the Duke of Richmond, the same man the old barracks were named for.

No sponsor has ever put its name on the place. St Patrick's Athletic, founded in 1929, moved in a decade later and have stayed put in Inchicore since 1939, long enough that the ground now belongs to the club outright.

Richmond Park holds 5,500, with 2,800 of those seated. What it lacks in scale it makes up in continuity: a stadium that has changed hands only once in a century, from barracks to Brideville to St Pat's, and has never needed to change its name to do it.
