Ricoh Arena
Coventry, United Kingdom
Formerly: Ricoh Arena, City of Coventry Stadium, Coventry Stadium
The Ricoh Arena presents itself with a starkness that matches its origins. Built on the site of the Foleshill gasworks, the structure retains an industrial character rather than the romantic clutter of older grounds.
The venue in Coventry has always been a multi-purpose facility, but that function has often left it feeling disconnected. The playing surface is XtraGrass, a hybrid system designed for durability rather than playing conditions.
Ownership of the ground has shifted hands several times, reflecting the fluctuating fortunes of the tenants. Coventry City F.C. has been the primary occupant since 2005, though their relationship with the owners has been punctuated by disputes over rent and fees. In August 2025, the club officially acquired the arena from Frasers Group, a move that brought the complex under the control of the team that plays there. Before that, the venue had hosted Wasps RFC and various international tournaments, including the 2012 Olympics and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The approach to the ground is utilitarian, dominated by roadworks and traffic lights that funnel vehicles toward the entrance.
