Rostov Arena
Rostov Arena stands on the left bank of the Don, on a street named for exactly that — Levoberezhnaya. Built from the ground up for the 2018 World Cup, developed by the state contractor Sport-Engineering with Crocus International as general contractor, it never went through the rebrand most tournament venues get once the sponsors move in. FIFA required a neutral name for the tournament, and Rostov Arena simply kept it — no former name, no sponsor tag, then or since.
The stadium opened on 13 May 2018, a month after FC Rostov and SKA-Khabarovsk played the first test match there, a 2:0 win for the home side. Five World Cup fixtures followed, and one of them refuses to fade: the round of 16 between Belgium and Japan, who led twice before Belgium got over the line, 3:2. The record crowd, 43,472, came earlier in the tournament, split across two group games — South Korea against Mexico and Iceland against Croatia.
FC Rostov plays its league matches here, and the national team has used the ground as well. Away from football, the arena has hosted Basta, who drew more than 35,000 in September 2018, and Leningrad the following year; Ruki Vverh are booked to play there in 2026.
