Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion
Opened in 1923 as the Dresdner Kampfbahn , on ground that had held sports pitches since 1874, it was renamed in 1937 for the patron Hermann Ilgen, then rebuilt after the war and given the name of the Dresden runner Rudolf Harbig in September 1951. From 1971 the authorities of the German Democratic Republic found Harbig's past membership of the NSDAP inconvenient, and the ground became the Dynamo-Stadion until reunification brought the old name back.
The current arena stands on the same footprint. Demolition began in November 2007, the rebuild cost between 45 and 46 million euros, and the ground reopened in September 2009 with a friendly that SG Dynamo Dresden lost 2:1 to FC Schalke 04. The old floodlight pylons went; roughly 1,200 business seats, twenty boxes and a glazed east stand with offices behind it came in.
