Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium

The pitch here sloped from one touchline to the other for decades. It lasted until the 2016–2018 regeneration project levelled the surface, laid a synthetic pitch, and raised the 955-seat Mark Farren Stand, at a cost of £7 million; Derry City played its home fixtures at Maginn Park while the work was under way.

The ground carried the name Brandywell from its opening in 1928 until September 2018, when it was renamed for Ryan McBride, who had died the year before.

Friendlies against clubs well above the League of Ireland's usual visitors have passed through more than once: Barcelona won 5–0 here on 12 August 2003, remembered locally as Ronaldinho's debut for the club, and Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all played on the ground since. None drew the crowd that turned out for the 1986 league fixture against Finn Harps, still the record attendance at 9,800. Derry City held their nerve on penalties to beat Shelbourne in the 2006 League Cup final.

Capacity has moved the other way of late. The 2018 rebuild left the ground holding around 3,700; a new North Stand, built for £2 million and opened in April 2025, took that to 6,300. The synthetic pitch laid in 2017 gave way in 2026 to a hybrid surface, and the South Stand's seating is due for safety-related replacement the same year, at a cost of roughly £156,000.
