Šaľa Football Stadium

Šaľa, Slovakia

The ground sits on the edge of town near the bridge over the Váh river. It is not a grand arena, but it holds the history of a town that has rebuilt itself more than once. The original site was closer to the railway tracks, but the present structure followed the move after World War II, when citizens contributed hundreds of hours of labour to bring the club back to life.

What stands out is the seating arrangement, which looks like a patchwork quilt rather than a uniform block. Tall floodlights rise above the perimeter, casting long shadows across the natural grass pitch.

The stadium hosted the Šaľa Maxi Festík children's festival at one point, showing it serves the community beyond the ninety minutes of football. It closed for renovations in October 2020, a pause that fits the rhythm of a place that has seen major reconstruction since 1970 under the leadership of RNDr. Andrej Gašpar. The capacity figures vary between sources, but the number of seats remains constant at 1,126.

The club itself dates back to 1921, but the ground is a survivor. It was damaged by bombing in the spring of 1945, yet it remains. There is also an artificial turf pitch in the complex. The official website is inactive, but the physical presence of the stadium is undeniable. It is a place where the past is visible in the paint and the concrete.
