San Siro (Giuseppe Meazza)

Since 2 March 1980 it has been the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, after the forward who played for Inter from 1927 to 1947 and won the World Cup twice, in 1934 and 1938. Everyone still says San Siro.

It went up in thirteen months, built by Piero Pirelli's firm to designs by Ulisse Stacchini and Alberto Cugini, and opened on 19 September 1926 with a derby. Inter beat Milan 6–3 in front of 35,000 — exactly the number the ground held at the time.

What followed was half a century of adding. The first rebuild in 1935 took it to 55,000, the same year the municipality bought it and renamed it the Stadio Comunale di San Siro. Between 1948 and 1955 the capacity was pushed to 100,000, later trimmed to 60,000 seated and 25,000 standing. For the 1990 World Cup, Giancarlo Ragazzi and Enrico Hoffer worked with the engineer Leo Finzi on a version holding around 85,000. A 2008 rebuild to UEFA requirements brought it down to 80,018, and the work carried out between 2011 and 2015 set the figure it holds now.

The pitch is Desso GrassMaster — natural grass with synthetic fibres stitched 20 centimetres into the soil. Since 2025 the operating company, M-I Stadio s.r.l., has been owned by AC Milan and Inter together.
