Sandvika stadion
Sandvika, Norway
Formerly: Kadettangen, Kadettangen kunstgress
The ground sits on Kadettangen, a strip of land named for the military cadets who trained there before the pitch became a football field.
Bærum Sportsklubb plays on the artificial turf, which replaced the original gravel in 2003. The stands are modest; a section of seats was salvaged from the demolition of Bislett Stadion in Oslo and installed here. The capacity is listed as 2,000 in most records, but the actual seated area is smaller. The official attendance record was set in 2004, when the crowd gathered to watch the local team defeat Vålerenga in the Norwegian Football Cup.
Before it was a football stadium, Kadettangen hosted ice hockey matches during the 1952 Winter Olympics. The facility was renamed AJ Arena in 2022 after sponsorship changes, but the locals still refer to it by its older name.
AJ Arena is the current name, but the history is rooted in the earlier years of the twentieth century. The site was purchased in 1916, and the facility has survived two world wars and the transition from gravel to synthetic surfaces. It does not host international fixtures, and the crowd rarely exceeds the seated capacity.
