Schulzentrum Blomberg

Blomberg, Germany

Formerly: Sporthalle BUI, Sporthalle am Schulzentrum Blomberg, Sporthalle an der Ulmenallee

The Schulzentrum Blomberg stands on the Ostrand. The complex is decades old; most of the buildings have been in place for more than 40 years.

The sports hall within the grounds is the room that matters. It is large enough to host the Handball-Bundesliga. The capacity sits at 1,300, a figure reached only after renovation works finished for the 2022/23 season. Before that, the room held 900. The floor itself was replaced entirely during those renovations, a new covering laid down over the old surface. Before that, in 2013, the floor had been changed from green to blue.

HSG Blomberg-Lippe calls the complex home. They play women's handball, a game that demands sharp angles and fast movement, both of which the hall provides. The highest crowd to pack the stands for a match here was 857 spectators on November 3, 2024, when the team played HSG Bensheim/Auerbach. The club's record attendance of 3,920 was set elsewhere, in the PHOENIX CONTACT Arena in Lemgo, when the Schulzentrum could not hold them.

The building was re-opened in July 2025 after the city spent 6.7 million euros modernising the site. The work included barrier-free access and new technical systems. Naming rights were later sold to SynFlex Elektro GmbH, and the hall became the SynFlex Arena an der Ulmenallee. A school building with a sports hall inside is not a monument, but it is where the game is played.
