Shahid Raisi Stadium
Kerman, Iran
Formerly: Shohadaye Mes Kerman Stadium
The ground in Kerman carries the name of the president who died in a helicopter crash shortly before its opening. Shahid Raisi Stadium has been a long time coming, built slowly by the National Iranian Copper Industries Company starting in 2006, though it only finally opened in 2024 after eighteen years of work.
What sits there now is not the original pitch. It used to be Shohadaye Mes Kerman Stadium, the home of Sanat Mes Kerman FC, but the name was changed when the new structure was completed. It was modelled after the former Estadio Vicente Calderón in Madrid and holds FIFA Class 4 certification, which means it can host international fixtures.
No attendance record has been documented in public sources yet.
The ground does not have a specific street address, which is common for facilities built on the edge of cities. Things came to a head only recently, with the official opening ceremony arriving after the political events that led to the renaming.
