The stadium was built in the late 1950s, a time when such venues were designed to accommodate standing crowds. The conversion to an all-seater layout came after a major rebuild for the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2022. Dukla Banská Bystrica continues to play here, using the pitch for their domestic fixtures.
