Soldier Field
Chicago's park district gave the stadium a name to match — Municipal Grant Park Stadium — before switching it a year later to honour American soldiers killed in the First World War. The colonnades that still ring the upper bowl were drawn from the Colosseum.
The 2002–2003 rebuild left the old stone rows standing while dropping a modern bowl inside them, cutting capacity from the near 67,000 of the 1990s down to 62,500. The renovation's price tag is itself disputed, with estimates running from $400 million past $690 million depending on who is counting.
Soldier Field has hosted a religious gathering that drew 260,000 people through its gates in a single day, a figure no football crowd here has come close to matching — the record for a soccer match, 62,358, was set as recently as April 2025 when Chicago Fire hosted Inter Miami. The Chicago Bears have called it home since 1971, playing on a natural grass surface that was switched to Bermuda turf in September 2022.
