Spartak (Khujand)
Khujand, Tajikistan
Formerly: Spartak Stadium, Leninabad; Spartak Stadium, Khodjent
Two stadiums share the name in Khujand, and only one of them is old. Spartak Stadium, on Ismoili Somoni Avenue in the centre, is the one that predates it by seven decades and has been quietly stepping back since the newer ground opened.
It opened in 1935, under Soviet administration, when the city itself still went by Leninabad — the ground carried that name for decades, then Khodjent's, before settling on the current spelling of the city. The Spartak tag has outlasted both.
Capacity today is listed at 1,000, a modest figure next to older claims of three or six times that, which points less to a rebuild than to a ground that has simply hosted fewer people over the years. The pitch is natural grass, ringed by an athletics track — a layout typical of Soviet-era municipal stadiums built for more than one sport. There are no floodlights yet, though seating and lighting are both due to be added in 2026.
No attendance record survives for the ground, and little has been recorded of its reconstructions since the original build. What is clear is its role: a city-centre stadium standing in the shadow of its own successor across the river, still carrying the name it opened under in 1935.
