Sportovní hala Sokol Pražský
Prague, Czechia
Formerly: Novoměstská sokolovna
Sportovní hala Sokol Pražský stands in Prague’s Nové Město district. It opened in 1863. The hall was designed by architect Vojtěch Ignác Ullmann and built as the headquarters for Sokol Pražský. Its Neo-Renaissance façade is not much altered from its original form.
The ground is home to the local basketball team and occasionally hosts youth competitions and events such as the Memoriál Ády Hochmana. With a capacity of around 300 spectators, it does not accommodate large crowds, but its compact size gives it a sense of intimacy. The floor is wooden parquet, standard for indoor basketball.
Unlike many newer sports facilities in Prague, this hall retains its historical identity. It has never undergone a major sponsorship renaming, and locals still refer to it by its original name: Novoměstská sokolovna. That name appears alongside the current Sportovní hala Sokol Pražský on match programmes and official records. The hall is located at Žitná 42/1438, near the edge of the New Town, and has hosted events ranging from basketball to dance conventions.
It remains a quiet anchor in Prague’s sporting history.
