Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer

The ground has been called four different things in under twenty years. In 1997, after a rebuild that followed Greuther Fürth into the 2. Bundesliga, it became the Playmobil-Stadion — the toy firm's owner, Horst Brandstätter, also owned the stadium. From the 2010/11 season the naming rights passed to the sweet manufacturer Trolli, and for four years it was the Trolli-Arena.

When the Trolli contract expired in July 2014, the club simply named the place after its own front door: Stadion am Laubenweg. That lasted until February 2016, when the property businessman Thomas Sommer put his name to it and the ground became Sportpark Ronhof | Thomas Sommer.

The oldest name is the plainest and the most literal: Sportplatz am Ronhofer Weg, sometimes given in full as the pitch on Ronhofer Weg opposite the central cemetery. That was what opened on 11 September 1910, and the cemetery is still the neighbour.

The playing surface has stayed natural grass throughout. The one concession came in 2014, when artificial turf was laid around the edges of the pitch for the warm-up areas — a border, not a replacement. Players still warm up on the plastic and cross onto grass.
