The bowl at 16, route des Jeunes sits in an industrial pocket of Grand-Lancy rather than in Geneva proper. Stade de la Praille, after the surrounding quarter, has never been the official title.

The record crowd was set before the ground was formally opened. On 16 March 2003, six weeks ahead of the official ceremony on 30 April, Servette drew 1:1 with Young Boys in front of 30,084 — every seat the arena holds.

A hybrid surface went in during July 2016, and when the state of the grass drew criticism in the press, the stadium foundation decided in October 2020 to keep the hybrid system rather than switch to a fully synthetic one.

Beyond the Swiss national team's regular visits, the ground has taken on the occasional outside fixture. Liverpool beat Lyon 3:1 in a friendly on 31 July 2019, the night the club presented its sixth Champions League trophy. In April 2023 the Swiss Cup semi-final between Servette and Lugano finished 2:2, with Lugano through on penalties. Two summers later the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 brought a quarter-final here, Norway 2:0 Italy, along with Switzerland against Finland in the group stage.

Concerts fill it too — Johnny Hallyday drew more than 29,000 in June 2012, and Mylène Farmer played in June 2023. Less welcome were the crowd incidents involving Servette supporters across 2023 and 2024, which left the north stand closed.
