Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps
Auxerre, France
Formerly: Stade de la Route de Vaux
It opened in 1918 as the Stade de la Route de Vaux on land bought by the founder of AJ Auxerre , Abbé Ernest-Théodore Valentin Deschamps, who died in 1949. When Auxerre won the Ligue 1 title in 1996, the crowd reached 22,500 on the final day against FC Nantes . That evening remains the highest figure the stadium has ever seen.
France played here three times: a 10–0 win over Azerbaijan during the UEFA Euro 1996 qualifiers, a 1–0 victory against Georgia in UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying, and a friendly against Canada in 2016. The women's Coupe de France final between Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain returned two years later, though a power cut in the tenth minute forced a penalty shootout. Auxerre also reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 1993 before losing to Borussia Dortmund . Racing 92 occasionally host Top 14 rugby games here.
Visitors arrive at the address on Route de Vaux . The club's site is aja.fr . The capacity sits at 18,541, though some records list 17,897 after a series of upgrades.
