Stade de Tourbillon

Stade de Tourbillon takes its name not from a sponsor but from the medieval Château de Tourbillon standing on the hill above it, and that name has never been sold or swapped — a rarity for a ground its size in Swiss football.

The arena as it stands today is largely the product of a rebuild stretched across a decade, from 1986 to 1996, when the covered stands and the curves behind each goal were reworked; the project's budget grew from 5.275 million Swiss francs at the outset to 8 million by completion. A further 13 million francs went later into bringing the ground up to UEFA standard, adding LED perimeter boards and hospitality areas.

Attendance figures tell two different stories depending on which version of the stadium is being counted. Under a temporarily expanded capacity, 16,600 packed in for a Swiss Cup tie against Young Boys in November 2017. In the current 14,283-seat configuration, the record stands at 14,100, set for a match against Servette in April 2025.

Beyond FC Sion's own fixtures, the stadium has taken on international duty: it hosted matches at UEFA Women's EURO 2025 in July of that year, and has staged friendlies involving the Swiss national side against opponents including Japan, Côte d'Ivoire, Algeria and Armenia.
