Locals still call it the Mambourg . On 17 June 2000 England beat Germany 1-0 here, and three days later England and Romania played out a 2-3. Yugoslavia and Slovenia had already drawn 3-3 at the same venue.

Then the ground began coming down again, in stages. The upper tier of the east stand went first, once the tournament had finished, taking the capacity to somewhere in the mid-twenty-thousands. An administrative court found the Euro 2000 expansion had breached planning rules, so in 2012-13 the upper tiers of three of the four stands were dismantled at a cost of €3.2m.

New roofs went onto the surviving stands in 2014-15, a structure costing €1.72m; in 2020 the floodlights were replaced with an LED system to meet UEFA requirements.

Beyond Royal Charleroi Sporting Club , the ground has taken Belgium internationals, including a 2004 World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, and the 2004 UEFA Cup semi-final between La Louvière and Benfica.
