Stadio Arechi

Salerno chose the site of its new ground before it chose the name. When the agreement between the municipality and the builder, SICOAP of Naples, was signed on 1 September 1986, four candidates were still in the running — Valese, Viani, Del Mare, Tirreno — and the debate over what to call the stadium ran on for years after the first concrete had gone in. The name that eventually won, Arechi, reaches back to the eighth century and Arechi II, the Lombard duke who moved his capital to Salerno, and it has stuck through every season since: no rebrand, no sponsor prefix, just Arechi, known locally as the "Principe degli stadi".

Designed by the architects Della Monica and Spiazferri, the ground opened on 8 September 1990 with Salernitana hosting Padova, and it has been the club's home ever since. The natural turf pitch sits inside a bowl built for just under 30,000, on Via Salvador Allende on the edge of the city — a location that keeps the stadium apart from Salerno's dense historic centre rather than embedded in it.

Salernitana has never carried a stadium sponsor into the ground's name, and the club runs its own site rather than the venue holding a separate one — a small detail, but one that marks the Arechi as a one-club, one-identity ground in a league where naming rights change hands often.
