Stadio Friuli

Stadio Friuli in Udine stands on the ground where Stadio Moretti once did, the club's home from 1924 until the move across town in 1976. Fifty years on, the name people actually use has shifted more than once — Dacia Arena from 2016, now Bluenergy Stadium — while the address on Piazzale Repubblica Argentina has not moved at all.

The bowl itself changed shape more than its name. What opened in 1976 held more than 40,000; the rebuild finished in January 2016 left a tighter, steeper 25,144-seat arena with the pitch itself replaced by a SISGrass hybrid surface. Udine kept the ground running through the works rather than decamping elsewhere, which is its own kind of stubbornness for a mid-sized Serie A club.

Its résumé reaches past Udinese. The stadium hosted matches at the 1990 World Cup, later staged the final of the 2019 European Under-21 Championship, and is down to hold a UEFA Super Cup fixture. The national side has played both football and rugby there, and the pitch has made way for touring acts including Pink Floyd, Madonna and Metallica — a concert history longer than most Italian grounds outside the biggest cities can claim.
