Stadium
Stadio Renzo Barbera
Formerly: Stadio Littorio, Stadio Michele Marrone, Stadio La Favorita
Palermo have played at the same ground for close to a century. Opened in January 1932 as Stadio Littorio, it became Stadio Michele Marrone under wartime administration, then spent more than half a century as Stadio La Favorita. The current dedication to Renzo Barbera only arrived in September 2002.
The ground reached its largest form in 1984, when capacity was pushed out to 50,000. The work was not without cost — a stand collapsed during the 1989 renovation, killing five labourers.
Giovan Battista Santangelo designed the original structure, though it took until 1948 for the end curves to be completed.
Stadio Renzo Barbera sits on Viale del Fante, still on natural grass.
