Ask someone from Sassari what the ground by Piazzale Antonio Segni is called, and the answer often depends on their age. For roughly half a century after it opened in 1922 on land the SEF Torres society secured on favourable terms, it was simply Stadio Torres. Decades later it became Stadio Acquedotto, a name borrowed from the aqueduct tower standing by the entrance rather than from any club or sponsor.

The ground took its present name on 22 August 2001, in honour of Giovanni "Vanni" Sanna, who had played for Torres before going on to coach the club and later serve as its sporting director, and who died that same year. It is the kind of tribute that only makes sense once a club and its ground have been bound together for generations, and here they have: Torres 1903 have called it home throughout.

Nothing here has been built for scale. It remains a compact ground with a natural grass pitch, and the address on Via Salvatore Coradduzza has outlasted every name posted above its gates. What has changed, three times now, is what people call it when they walk through them.
