Stadion Bazys

Kochubeivka, Ukraine

Stadion Bazys sits in the village of Kochubeivka. It is not a place of grand echoes. The stand is small, holding 400 souls.

The ground arrived in 2018, on the 27th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. It was built by the agricultural firm Agrofirma Bazys, with Volodymyr Osadchy, the firm’s head and the club’s honorary president, footing the bill. He is credited with financing the infrastructure development. There is no record of who laid the foundations or when the first shovel hit the dirt, but the result has stood for years.

The surface is natural grass, cut and kept by the hands of those who play there. It is a working ground, not a showcase. The club competes in the Cherkasy Oblast Championship, but the pitch has seen foreign visitors, such as MFK Metalurh-2 Zaporizhya when they travelled to face UCSA in September 2023. These are matches played for pride, not for television audiences.

There is no official address for the stadium, no building number that points to its door. The location is known by the village and the firm that owns it. There is no attendance record kept, no massive crowd that once filled the seats to bursting. It is the only ground in town, a quiet corner where the rain goes straight through the open sides and the players run until they are tired. It has hosted no finals, no concerts, no significant incidents beyond the usual league play. It simply exists, a field for the people who live nearby.
