Stadion Benrath
Benrath is a district affair before it is anything else: the ground sits on Karl-Hohmann-Straße and belongs, in every sense that matters locally, to VfL Benrath 06 — since it never carried a sponsor's name of its own. The pitch has been Rasen since it opened, and by this year it had worn down to what one local paper called a maroder Tennenplatz, a tired surface the club plans to replace with artificial turf toward the end of 2027 or the start of 2028.
The stadium's biggest football moment came early: in 1957, the year it opened, it hosted the final of the West German amateur championship, where VfL Benrath beat BFC Alemannia 90 by four goals to two. Fortuna Düsseldorf returned in 2006 for a friendly marking VfL Benrath's centenary.
These days the ground's busiest tenant plays a different sport. Düsseldorf Panther, the American football club, use it regularly, and it has carried genuine weight in that game: the Junior Bowl finals of 2013 and 2022 were both played here, and in October 2025 it staged a European Championship fixture between Finland and Italy. For a 7,000-capacity ground with no resident football club of note, that is an unusual second life.
