Stadion Flugplatz sits on a flat stretch of ground where the old airfield met the Karlshof district. It is a place defined by its age rather than any grand design. The concrete grandstand and the changing rooms date back to the 1950s, and the floodlights were removed years ago, leaving the pitch to be lit by temporary towers. The club, 1. FC Phönix Lübeck, plays in the Regionalliga, a level that requires facilities the venue does not currently possess.

The original builder remains unknown, but ownership shifted in 1966 when the club sold the land to the City of Lübeck. The capacity is a matter of record and memory. Modern counts place it at 5,000, though historical accounts speak of standing areas that held closer to 9,000 for matches in the Oberliga Nord. That figure belongs to the past, when crowds gathered for games against teams like ASV Bergedorf 85.

The pitch itself is natural grass, worn down by decades of use. The club has signed an agreement with the city to renovate the site, but the work has not begun, and the team continues to play away matches at neutral venues like the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.
