Stadion HNK Cibalia

Stadion HNK Cibalia carries its history on its concrete. It looks back to 1966, when the stadium was built from scratch by volunteers, workers and members of the military. They named it Stadion Mladosti, or Youth Stadium. It received a second grandstand in the east in 1982 to handle the crowd following the local team's promotion to the highest level in Yugoslavia. The capacity was later settled at around 10,000 after seats were installed in 2003.

The floodlights, added in 2008, rise like tall poles against the sky. The pitch itself is natural grass, marked out for the occasional match for the national team, a 5-0 win over Liechtenstein in 2009 being the most recent fixture of note.

The ground has seen changes. The name became Stadion HNK Cibalia in 1992. It does not look like a place that seeks attention. The address, Ul. Hansa Dietricha Genschera 22, is simply a place on a map. The stadium was built by people who wanted something here, and it is here still.
