Arena Zabrze sits in the industrial heart of Zabrze.
The ground opened in 1934 as Adolf-Hitler-Kampfbahn before becoming Stadion Miejski and later Stadion Górnika. It was renamed Stadion im. Ernesta Pohla in 2005 to honour the club’s legendary player, though the commercial name Arena Zabrze stuck after the rebuild finished in 2016. The reconstruction kept the old concrete structure intact while adding three new tiers, bringing the capacity down to 24,563 from its peak of 40,000 in the 1960s.
Inside, the pitch sits on natural grass with undersoil heating.
Górnik Zabrze played home legs in the 1970 European Cup Winners’ Cup, reaching the final before losing to Manchester City. The ground has hosted seven Poland national team matches, including qualifiers for the 1986 World Cup and Euro 1988.
The reconstruction was split into two phases. The first cost 192.5 million PLN and brought the stadium up to UEFA Category 4 standards. The second phase, currently underway, will rebuild the original main stand at a further cost of 46 million PLN.
The attendance record of 50,000 was set on 22 September 1957 against Gwardia Warszawa, a result that went down in local history.
