Stadion Střelnice

Stadion Střelnice sits higher above sea level than any other professional football ground in the Czech Republic — 542 metres up, on a site that started out in 1871 as a shooting range.

The stadium in its present form opened in 1955, though the pitch stayed sand for another nine years. A new B stand, a press box and a covered athletics track were added the following year.

The bigger transformation ran from 2003 to 2006: floodlights went up first, the Jih stand opened in October 2004 with room for 1,839, and the old main stand was pulled down and rebuilt with VIP areas and new dressing rooms, opened in May 2006 with a friendly against Costa Rica. Between 2007 and 2014 the ground carried the name Chance Arena, after its bookmaker sponsor. A 2018 upgrade brought the ground up to UEFA standard, and a 2023 rebuild replaced the pitch base, heating system and floodlights with LED units. That work also cost the ground some capacity, down to 5,690, once the Jih-C stand was split to make room for a larger away section.

The record crowd, 16,201, came for a league meeting with Sparta Praha in the 1974/75 season. Decades later the stadium hosted the final of the 2008 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, where Germany beat Italy 3:1, and it has three times welcomed the Czech national side, for friendlies against Iceland, Costa Rica and Malta.
