Workers' Stadium

The new Workers' Stadium in Beijing carries the name of its predecessor through a **fair-faced concrete** façade that mirrors the original structure, while the interior has been entirely reimagined. The project replaced the 1959 building, which stood for over six decades as one of the city's "Ten Great Buildings," with a modern arena that opened in April 2023. What defines the pitch itself is the hybrid surface, an anchor grass system that blends natural turf with artificial fibres, a standard found across Europe's elite leagues. Inside, the seating rises in a continuous sweep beneath a polycarbonate roof designed to let in light for the grass. The ground serves as the home for Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League. It has hosted international fixtures, including a friendly where Lionel Messi scored his fastest-ever goal for Argentina, and major concerts featuring artists like Linkin Park and Mariah Carey. Before the rebuild, the venue hosted the 2008 Olympic football semi-finals and the 2004 AFC Asian Cup final.

The stadium occupies a block in the Chaoyang District near the Sanlitun business area, situated between Gongrentiyuchang North, East, South, and West Roads. It stands as the primary venue for Beijing Guoan, replacing the old ground that closed in 2020 to allow for the reconstruction.

Capacity and attendance

The current arena holds 68,000 spectators. The record for the new venue was set during a Chinese Super League match against Shanghai Shenhua in March 2026, drawing 64,118 fans. The original stadium's record for a league match stood at 57,096, recorded in 2019 against Guangzhou Evergrande.
