Stadion Widzewa replaced a ground that had occupied the same site for nearly a century. Where the old pitch sat before 2014, the new arena opened on 18 March 2017, replacing the previous venue on the same site at Al. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 138. The old stadium was demolished in 2015 after hosting matches against Liverpool FC and Juventus during the 1982/1983 European Cup semi-final run.

The new facility carries the capacity of 18,018 seats across its tiered stands. The playing surface is natural grass, equipped with under-soil heating, and the pitch dimensions are approximately 106 x 70 meters. High-quality turf rolls were sourced from a nursery in Hungary that also supplies the German Bundesliga. On match nights, floodlights illuminate the field.

The site's history runs deeper than the current building. The original stadium, built for the club WiMa (Widzewska Manufaktura), opened in 1928. After WiMa merged with Widzew Łódź in 1949, the stadium became Widzew's home. It was later named Stadion imienia Ludwika Sobolewskiego, a prominent Polish footballer and coach associated with the club. This name was used until the stadium's closure in 2014. The old stadium underwent several renovations: artificial lighting was installed in the 1980s, first used in 1985; in the 1990s, plastic seats replaced wooden benches, reducing capacity from approximately 20,000 to around 10,000–10,500; and pitch heating was added in 2007.

The new ground was built to meet UEFA Category 3 standards. It hosted the opening match and the final of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, with Tahiti facing Senegal in the opener and England beating Spain in the final. Widzew Łódź continue to play here, and the venue occasionally hosts rugby matches, including games for the Poland national team.
