Stadionul Ion Comșa

Ask in Călărași which stadium the year 1962 belongs to, and the answer names one venue: the Ion Comșa arena, home to Dunărea since it went up on Bulevardul Republicii. For half a century it was simply Stadionul Tineretului, the Youth Stadium, later called Stadionul Central — plain names for what was, for years, the town's only real football ground. The rename came in 2013, when the club fixed the name Ion Comșa to the gates, honouring a former club president rather than a footballer.

The capacity written into the ground has moved with the club's fortunes rather than any single renovation. When Dunărea pushed into Liga II around 2015-2016, the seated capacity was cut back to 6,000. Promotion form to Liga I in 2018 brought floodlights for the first time, but the building work needed to fit them shrank the usable capacity to 8,000 for a spell — a stadium temporarily smaller than itself while it caught up with the requirements of a higher division.

What has not changed is the pitch, still natural grass, and the address on the Bulevardul Republicii that has placed the ground at the centre of the town since it opened. No record survives locally of an attendance mark worth citing, nor of the contractor behind the 2018 works — the kind of detail that tends to disappear from a provincial ground's paperwork even as the floodlights stay lit.
